Flights seem expensive to Sheridan, but reasonable to Denver. Is it feasible to drive from Denver to Jentel? Denver is a hub for United and supports several carriers who offer competitive rates. The expense usually comes on the leg between Denver and Sheridan. Jentel is six hours from Denver by car and 1.5 hours by plane.
Is there a less expensive option to get to Sheridan? Jentel is only two hours by car and 30 minutes by plane from Billings, MT. Billings has a large enough airport to offer competitive fares on several carriers. Big Sky Airlines has recently added an inexpensive daily flight to and from Billings. In the past, several residents have rented a car for the day and have driven to the Sheridan airport where Staff meet and transport them to Jentel. Other residents have opted to fly into Billings and take a $6 cab ride from the airport to the Billings bus station and then continue on to Sheridan via Powder River Bus Lines.
How do I get from Sheridan to Jentel?
Once at the Sheridan airport or bus station, Jentel staff provide transportation to the residency. The process is reversed for the return to the Sheridan Airport or the Sheridan bus station and on Billings.
Does it matter when I arrive on the 15th?
Residents plan to arrive at Jentel on the first day of their residency between 1-4pm. Residents who travel by plane or bus with arrivals or departures in the very early morning and/or late night, will need to arrange for overnight accommodation at their expense in Sheridan while waiting for transport to Jentel or to meet their transportation home. Taxi service may also be an option and averages $20 for one way.
What are the directions(link) to Jentel by car?
By car heading north toward Sheridan from Buffalo and approximately 12 miles north of Buffalo, take Exit Number 44 (Piney Creek Road) from I-90. At the bottom of the exit ramp turn right at the green highway Piney Creek Road sign and head east on the gravel road. This is also marked as Sheridan County Road 149. Travel approximately 5.5 miles from the bottom of the exit ramp. Just after the only metal bridge crossing Piney Creek, turn right into the driveway by the Jentel mailboxes. The log cabin at the left end of the village houses reception, the offices and staff to greet you.
Heading south toward Sheridan from the Montana border, take Exit Number 25 (Sheridan/Hwy 14) from I-90. From the bottom of the exit at the underpass, head east (left turn) on Hwy 14. Gauge 18.5 miles on the odometer. Just after you come over a hill, you will see a sign for Sheridan County Road 149. Turn right and travel for 1.6 miles until you see the metal bridge crossing Piney Creek. Just before the bridge, turn left into the driveway by the Jentel mailbox. The log cabin at the left end of the village houses reception and the offices.

What is Jentel Presents?
Residents may come to Jentel with an interest or commitment to engaging with a larger creative arts community. Jentel Presents features an hour and a half of readings and or slide presentations by residents at one of several sites in Sheridan on the first Tuesday of the month. Informal and casual in setting, the activity is important to extending the spirit of Jentel to the cultural community in the area. The evening may also provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about life in the West and to exchange their experiences with area supporters of the arts. Residents may count on an intimate and appreciative audience.
Are there more opportunities for community presentations?
Also depending on the time of the year, the staff may arrange outreach in the form of readings, slide presentations or workshops through Sheridan College, a two year community college; through one of the programs at The Wyoming Girls’ School; through the library programs for young adults or the summer youth camps in the area.
Is community outreach required?
Although no services are expected of the residents during their session, community outreach is encouraged and supported through the Jentel Presents program.
How do I find out who else will be coming to Jentel when I am there?
A soon as you and the other five residents in your group fill out and return the information release form, the staff will send you all a list of names and contact information that you may use to coordinate travel or related matters.
